Ukraine claims to have attacked 21 Russian oil tankers in the Sea of Azov with drones overnight, while the Russian side confirmed only four ships hit and one dead sailor.
The Ukrainian General Staff in Kyiv announced via the messaging service Telegram that 21 additional Russian oil tankers in the Sea of Azov had been attacked with drones overnight. It would be the largest attack by number in an offensive wave that has been ongoing for days. The extent of the damage is still being assessed, the General Staff added. The figures from both warring parties cannot be independently verified.
The governor of the southern Russian region of Rostov, Yuri Slyusar, wrote on Telegram that four ships at sea had been attacked overnight. "One person was killed, the sailor on a technical vessel," he said. Russia had previously given significantly lower figures regarding the shelling.
Minor damage according to Russian side
In addition to the tankers, the drones also hit four tugboats, two dry cargo ships and a dredger, the General Staff in Kyiv said on Telegram. Slyusar stated that the damage on board was minor, including on a tanker that had been loaded with highly flammable methanol. There was no risk of the cargo leaking.
