A senior US diplomat, Raymond Greene, has called on Taiwan to build a comprehensive arsenal of drones to deter China, using the term "hornet's nest."
Drones as a strategic concept
Speaking at a forum in the city of Taichung on Thursday, Greene said the island needed to arm itself with a fleet of unmanned systems. "Nothing will deter conflict more effectively than turning Taiwan into a hornet's nest of air, surface and underwater drones," said the head of the American Institute in Taiwan, the de facto US embassy on the island. The remarks come amid a period of growing military tensions in the Taiwan Strait.
