Venice, July 13, 2026
Just over two months after the opening on May 9, the 60th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale is recording an increase in visitor numbers of around 20 percent compared to the comparable period of the 2024 edition.
The show titled "In Minor Keys" could at this stage become the best-attended Biennale in recent history, as media reported. The 2026 edition is therefore likely to be remembered above all for its public success.
The Austrian Contribution as a Crowd-Puller
The Austrian contribution is causing particular excitement. Austria's representative Florentina Holzinger attracted great attention with her performance "Seaworld Venice" already at the opening. According to reports, performers are holding out in a water tank connected to two toilets and a sewage treatment plant. The troupe around the much-noted choreographer has since been performing further performances, so-called "Etudes." A bell was dropped into the lake from a helicopter, which is then – as previously in Venice – "salvaged."
