The Verdi union is once again calling for nationwide warning strikes in the ongoing collective bargaining negotiations in the retail sector. This Friday, thousands of employees are to walk off the job, Verdi announced. Verdi did not specify which retail companies will be struck. Central strike rallies are planned in Dortmund, Berlin, Wiesbaden, Hanover, Oldenburg, Braunschweig, and Hamburg.

Background of the current bargaining round

The strikes are set against the backdrop of the ongoing collective bargaining negotiations in the retail sector. Negotiations for the retail trade as well as the wholesale and foreign trade began in April in the first regional districts. Next week, negotiations will continue in several federal states; the next round of negotiations in the wholesale and foreign trade is scheduled for July 13, while talks in the retail sector will resume on July 26.
