A warning strike by dockworkers slowed and partly halted cargo handling at six German seaports on Tuesday – including Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven.
The Verdi union called on employees at the six container and cargo handling ports to stage a full-day warning strike on Tuesday. According to industry sources, the affected sites were Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Wilhelmshaven, Bremen, Brake and Emden. At the three largest container ports of Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven, cargo handling largely came to a standstill, while operations continued at least on a limited basis at the remaining locations.
