Following the wildfire in the Andalusian province of Almería, the Spanish authorities have identified all 13 victims, twelve of whom are non-Spanish nationals.
Scale of the Disaster
The deadly wildfire broke out on Thursday afternoon in Los Gallardos in the province of Almería. According to the body responsible for coordinating the forensic work, which provided information on Tuesday, twelve of the 13 dead are non-Spanish nationals. The 13th victim is a 93-year-old British woman who succumbed to her injuries in hospital on Sunday.
Rescue workers recovered twelve bodies that were so badly disfigured by the flames that genetic samples had to be used for identification. According to current information, one Spaniard and three Belgians died; the remaining foreign victims are, according to the authorities, predominantly from Great Britain. The area is home to numerous foreigners, particularly Britons.
