Fueled by heat and drought, several wildfires have broken out in southern France, the most severe in the Taradeau area in the Var department, where more than 600 firefighters have been deployed.

The most intense fire raged on Sunday in the Taradeau area in the Var department, according to authorities. Fanned by the wind, the flames spread rapidly. By late evening, the blaze was still not under control, as reported by Deutschlandfunk.
Fanned by the wind, the flames spread rapidly toward the small town of Les Arcs-sur-Argens. In both locations, 150 people were evacuated to safety. Several houses were destroyed.

The authorities also spoke of "mehrere hundert Menschen" who were evacuated to safety in connection with the fire near Taradeau. The evacuations took place as the flames spread quickly toward inhabited areas under the influence of the wind.
Difficult Firefighting Operations
Firefighting operations in the mountainous region are difficult. In Corsica, two fires continue to blaze in the north of the island, triggered roughly a week ago by lightning strikes. The firefighting efforts are being supported by water-bombing aircraft.
