Omiš, August 14, 2026

Severe wildfires broke out on Thursday in the region around Omiš on the Croatian Adriatic coast, forcing hundreds of tourists to flee from hotels and holiday accommodations.

Raging flames spread on Thursday to the hills surrounding Omiš as well as to the nearby town of Lokva Rogoznica. According to emergency services, the fires spread rapidly toward the Croatian Adriatic coast, threatening several settlements and tourist facilities. As local media reported, beaches and campsites were evacuated while firefighters and aerial support battled the flames.

Operations Chief Warns of Prolonged Fire Activity

Slavko Tucakovic, who is leading the firefighting efforts on site, told local media: "In den nächsten zwei oder drei Tagen wird sich nichts ändern." He thereby ruled out a rapid containment of the fire. Authorities warned residents and tourists to follow the instructions of emergency services and to leave affected areas immediately.
