Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned, on the basis of intelligence findings, of massive Russian attacks immediately before the NATO summit in Ankara.
What it is about
Zelensky published his warning over the weekend via social media, explicitly referring to information from Ukrainian intelligence. He said the timing was "quite (Kremlin chief Vladimir) Putin's style — right after the American Independence Day and before the NATO summit in Ankara." Russia simply wanted "to cause more havoc and kill more people," the president wrote further.
The warning comes amid a phase of escalating mutual attacks. In Ukrainian strikes on Crimea, one person was killed according to information from the region. On the Russian side, Ukrainian drone and missile attacks caused damage. At the same time, the Russian air force is maintaining its attacks on Ukrainian cities, further worsening the already strained situation of Ukrainian air defenses.
