An 87-year-old retiree became stuck in the mire on the bank of the Salzach River in Bischofshofen in Pongau on Wednesday and was rescued by relatives and neighbors.

The incident occurred on Wednesday in Bischofshofen in Salzburg's Pongau region. According to current information, the 87-year-old retiree sank into the waterlogged ground near the riverbank and could no longer free himself, police said. The ground in such bank areas often consists of a mixture of mud, sand, and water in which people can easily sink.

As the man increasingly found himself in danger due to the rising water level of the Salzach, relatives quickly alerted additional helpers.
