A 67-year-old hiker was fatally injured by a falling boulder on Thursday at the head of the Großarltal valley near Hüttschlag in the Pongau district as she was on her way to the Schödersee with a group from the Alpine Club.

The woman was from the Flachgau district and was on a joint tour with a hiking group from the Alpine Club, according to emergency services. According to the Salzburg mountain rescue service, the group was already on its way to the Schödersee at an altitude of around 1,150 meters when the accident occurred. The deceased was on her way to the Schödersee together with a hiking group from the Alpine Club, as the Salzburg mountain rescue service reported.

The serious incident occurred in the Schödertal near Hüttschlag. A slab of rock came loose high above the group. The falling rock struck the 67-year-old on the foot.
