A 46-year-old German driver plunged his car roughly 20 meters off the road in the Zillertal on Saturday evening after being distracted by a barking dog; police confiscated his driver's license.

The accident occurred on Saturday evening, July 11, 2026, in the municipal area of Aschau in the district of Schwaz in Tyrol. According to police, the 46-year-old German driver was traveling along the Zillertaler Höhenstraße together with his 42-year-old companion when the incident happened on a curve.

Suddenly a dog began barking loudly inside the vehicle. Both the driver and his companion turned around to look at the animal and were thereby distracted. As a result, the car veered off the road and plunged down a slope approximately 20 meters deep.

The man was under the influence of alcohol according to police findings. A breathalyzer test came back positive, as the officers reported. His driver's license was subsequently confiscated on the spot and proceedings were initiated.
