Mitterbach am Erlaufsee, July 26, 2026

A 70-year-old paraglider pilot from the Lilienfeld district crashed shortly after takeoff on the Gemeindealpe near Mitterbach am Erlaufsee (Lower Austria) on Saturday afternoon and was extracted by mountain rescue.

According to the emergency services, the recreational sportsman had launched with his paraglider near the Terzerhaus on the Gemeindealpe at around 2:50 p.m. Only a short time later, the man lost control of his aircraft for reasons that remain unclear and crashed, as several eyewitnesses observed.

The pilot then became entangled in a Latschenfeld, an area covered with low mountain pines in rugged terrain. No precise information about the severity of his injuries was initially available. The paraglider was damaged.
