Twelve-year-old Dutch boy falls around 30 meters during mountain tour in Tyrol

The boy received emergency medical treatment on the mountain. The police initially provided no further details in the evening regarding the severity of his injuries or his current state of health. The exact location of the fall in the terrain was also not described in detail by the emergency services.

Deployment of mountain rescue and helicopter

The Längenfeld mountain rescue service was called out to assist. At the same time, the rescue helicopter from nearby Innsbruck was requested and was able to land near one of the mountain tour stages. After the initial emergency medical treatment, the child was flown to a hospital.

According to the reports, the tour led to the area of the Winnebachseehütte, an alpine refuge hut in the Ötztal. Whether the hike took place on a marked trail or whether the two were traveling off-route does not emerge from the information available so far.

Investigations and open questions

The police have launched investigations into the exact course of the fall. The main question is how the twelve-year-old could have lost his footing and whether external circumstances such as wet conditions, loose scree, or a slip played a role.
