A 66-year-old German hiker fell approximately 40 meters over alpine terrain while descending from the Gimpelhaus in Nesselwängle in the district of Reutte in Tyrol, sustaining serious injuries in the process.

According to police, the accident occurred on Thursday in the municipal area of Nesselwängle. The 66-year-old German national was on his way back after a stay at the Gimpelhaus hut when he lost his footing in the high-alpine terrain and fell around 40 meters into the depths.

According to initial findings, the man was unconscious during the fall and was therefore unable to catch himself or brake on his own. The fall over rocky terrain ended only after approximately 40 meters, where the hiker came to rest.
