Accident sequence at the bridge

The entire incident took place in Hinterriß in the municipality of Vomp in the district of Schwaz in Tyrol. Hinterriß lies in the Achenkirch region area and is considered a starting point for hikes to the Eng Alm. The mountain region is a popular destination for family outings on summer weekends.

According to the official report describing the operation, two children aged five and six were injured at the bridge. After receiving initial treatment at the accident site, the six-year-old was airlifted by the crew of the "Heli 3" emergency medical helicopter to the University Hospital in Innsbruck.

The police initially provided no further details regarding the exact medical condition of the six-year-old boy. According to the information provided, the five-year-old sustained only minor injuries. Investigations into the circumstances of the fall are ongoing, according to police.

The Jenbach Police Inspectorate has taken over the investigation into the accident sequence. Based on the current state of the investigation, officers assume that both children fell into the stream from the bridge independently of each other. Whether supervising adults were in the immediate vicinity at the time of the fall is part of the ongoing investigation.

Eng Alm as a popular family destination

The Eng Alm is a well-known excursion destination in the Karwendel range and is reached via a hiking trail that partly runs along streams and over bridges. The accident has sparked discussions in the region about the safety of bridges along popular family hiking trails.

The municipality of Vomp and the district of Schwaz have been informed of the incident. Whether any consequences will be drawn regarding the safety of the bridge on the trail to the Eng Alm was initially unclear. The authorities referred to the ongoing investigations.

The official report on the emergency services states: "Der Sechsjährige wurde von der Besatzung des Notarzthubschraubers 'Heli 3' in die Universitätsklinik nach Innsbruck geflogen." In addition to the air rescue service, police were also deployed.

According to the authorities, the hiking trail to the Eng Alm will remain open for the time being. Hikers are asked to stay on the designated trails and to exercise particular caution when accompanied by children.

Both children are from the region, according to police. Their relatives have been notified and are receiving medical and police support. The Jenbach Police Inspectorate is asking for information from any possible witnesses to the incident.
